Emily Bailey

Abandoned But Beautiful

My photographic project is a series of images that focus on the decay of abandoned places. These buildings and areas, once so full of life and people, are now rotting away. I’m in some of these images to show that these places are abandoned but not forgotten. I searched for abandoned places in areas not far from home in Poughkeepsie, Burnt Hills, and Ballston Spa.

The photographer who inspired my work is Kyle Thompson from Portland, Oregon. His work consists of mostly self-portraits that he takes in abandoned buildings and forests. His images are creative and creepy. The use of inserting himself into his images gives you the feeling that all though these places are desolate and abandoned that they too are not forgotten.
